Coming from the textile design background, I tend to work and see traditional jewellery craft and materials in a different way. I experiment with surfaces and textures, challenge the polished aesthetics of traditional wearable adornments.
My process is intuitive, spontaneous and almost elemental, turning into a state of utter concentration to create an intimate universe which captures a physical or emotional state of mind.
When I was little, I used to play a game. The idea was that you needed to scoop a little hole in the ground and then fill it with various items that included colourful flowers, candy wrappers and other twiddly bits. The last part was to put a piece of glass over it and cover the edges with the soil or sand.
I feel as though the same matter applies when I’m making jewellery. Moments, details of my daily life, snippets of my memories, found things, emotions – are incapsulated into a piece of jewellery.
Through a constant research and experimenting with new techniques and methodologies, I explore the potentiality and plasticity of different materials, like metal, wood and wax and their inner character as a form of expression of personal identity. When I am at my working bench I try to let materials express themselves, to understand what they want to become. My goal is to open up the potential of the materials by pushing their boundaries.
Materiality, tactility and sensuality are all primary features that characterise my creative process.
